Leading up to the imminent commencement of the new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) scheduled for Friday, a significant development has surfaced: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, captain of the reigning champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has passed the baton of captaincy to Rituraj Gaekwad.
Reported by cricket website 'Cricinfo,' Mahendra Singh Dhoni assumed the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings in the inaugural IPL season back in 2008. However, in 2022, Ravindra Jadeja was appointed captain of the team.
Ravindra Jadeja relinquished his captaincy after 8 matches, prompting MS Dhoni to reassume leadership of the franchise. Under his stewardship, Chennai Super Kings clinched the title for the fifth time in 2023.
During Mahendra Singh Dhoni's tenure with Chennai Super Kings, spanning IPL and Champions League T20 competitions, the team participated in a total of 235 matches. Under his captaincy, CSK secured IPL victories in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023, alongside Champions League T20 triumphs in 2010 and 2014.
Under MS Dhoni's leadership, Chennai Super Kings competed in 212 IPL matches, achieving 128 victories while suffering 82 losses, with two matches ending without a result. Remarkably, he holds the record for the most matches captained in IPL history, having led the team in a total of 226 encounters.
