Substantial Fine Imposed on Google for Violations
As per a statement from the French Competition Commission, the fine was levied against Google for breaching EU intellectual property regulations, having violated four out of seven terms outlined in the agreement it had previously consented to.
Furthermore, the European authority has voiced apprehensions regarding Google's artificial intelligence chatbot Bard (now rebranded as Gemini), alleging that the AI chatbot is unlawfully sourcing content from news organizations and media outlets for training purposes without obtaining proper consent.
The statement additionally noted that despite various proposed measures by the company in response to these concerns, none have been implemented thus far. However, Google has yet to issue any statement regarding this matter.
It's worth mentioning that this fine stemmed from a lawsuit filed by prominent French media organizations concerning online content.
Initially, Google was fined 500 million euros in this case, but through an out-of-court settlement, Google pledged to undertake various measures.
