"In a decisive measure aimed at combating environmental pollution, particularly smog, the Punjab government has announced a ban on plastic bag usage across the province. The decision was reached during a smog eradication session chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, which closely assessed the performance of various departments and stakeholders involved in addressing air pollution. Aurangzeb confirmed that the ban on plastic bags would be enforced province-wide, effective June 6.
Emphasizing the importance of public awareness campaigns regarding smog eradication initiatives, she also outlined plans to subsidize local production of solar panels across Punjab, praising ongoing efforts in this area. Additionally, Aurangzeb disclosed that all government buildings would undergo solarization under the Solar program. Stressing the role of vehicle emissions in exacerbating smog, the provincial minister underscored the necessity of fitness certificates and annual inspections for all vehicles as part of comprehensive measures to combat air pollution effectively."
