"Apple's Distinctive Market Position Eroded"

In California, the renowned tech giant Apple has relinquished its once unparalleled standing, experiencing a notable decline in sales this year compared to the previous one.

In this context, as per a report from a foreign news agency, Apple witnessed a decline of approximately 10 percent in smartphone sales during the first quarter of 2024, allowing Samsung to reclaim the coveted top position.
According to data from research firm IDC, smartphone shipments surged by 7.8 percent to 289.4 million units between January and March this year. Samsung's market share stands at 20.8 percent, surpassing Apple to regain its dominance in the smartphone market.
As outlined in the report, the substantial downturn in the iPhone maker's sales follows its robust performance in the December quarter of last year, during which it surpassed Samsung to become the world's leading phone maker.
The company returned to second place with 17.3 percent market share as Chinese brands Huawei gained market share.
In addition, Xiaomi is one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in China, occupying the third position with a market share of 14.1 percent during the first quarter.
According to IDC, Apple shipped 50.1 million iPhones in the first quarter, down from 55.4 million units shipped in the same period last year.
Apple's smartphone shipments in China fell 2.1 percent in the final quarter of 2023 from a year earlier.
