In Jaipur, India, a child afflicted with a rare heart condition received treatment costing 175 million rupees.
As per reports from international media, funds for the child's treatment were raised through crowdfunding efforts, with both the public and the police department stepping in to support little Hardiansh. The Zolgensma injection arrived at JK Loan Hospital from the US on Monday. Prior to the injection, cardiac pre-tests and necessary paperwork will be finalized.
Doctors have confirmed that the child underwent a heart injection and will be closely monitored under medical supervision for the next 24 hours.
According to medical experts, spinal muscular atrophy is a genetic disorder that severely affects the lower part of the body, including the heart. Without timely intervention, the condition can progress and even lead to fatality. Treatment options are most effective when initiated within the first 24 months of life.
Hardiansh's father, Naresh Sharma, serves as a sub-inspector in the Rajasthan Police. Concerned about Hardiansh's health issues, the family sought consultations with doctors in various locations, including Jaipur and Delhi.
Subsequent investigations have uncovered the nature of the disease, but unfortunately, the family's circumstances do not permit further treatment for the child.
The family was informed that treatment for the child was feasible, but the cost of the injection amounted to approximately Rs 17.5 crore. Given this situation, the entire family now relies on assistance from both the government and voluntary organizations.
