News:
In a major boost to Pakistan’s technology and manufacturing sector, Google has announced plans to manufacture between 500,000 and 600,000 Chromebooks annually within the country. The development was confirmed by Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, during a recent press briefing.
The initiative marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s digital transformation journey and reflects growing confidence from global tech giants in the country’s expanding tech ecosystem.
According to Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the local production of Chromebooks will not only help reduce device import costs but also create thousands of skilled jobs across the technology and electronics sectors. “This partnership is a testament to Pakistan’s potential in the global digital economy,” she stated, emphasizing that the move will also facilitate affordable access to digital learning tools for students and professionals nationwide.
The manufacturing setup is expected to begin operations in the coming months under public-private collaboration, with Google partnering with local tech assemblers. The locally produced Chromebooks will cater to educational institutions, freelancers, and small businesses, further promoting the government’s “Digital Pakistan” vision.
Industry experts have hailed the announcement as a game-changing step that could position Pakistan as a regional hub for tech manufacturing and innovation.
